True Deals episode 6: How Celonis became the first German decacorn

7.4.2023

Ambitious founders strive for unicorn status. This means that their company reaches a valuation of over one billion US dollars or euros without being listed on the stock exchange. The Munich-based software start-up Celonis is now classified as a Decacorn and thus belongs to a small group of unlisted companies with a valuation of over ten billion US dollars.

The three founders created their product during a student consultancy project at the Technical University of Munich and continue to develop it further. In this episode, Fabian Richter, Senior Investment Analyst at FINVIA, is our guest expert. In an interview with Christina Kleinfeld, he explains what makes the software unique, what venture capital companies look for in startup valuations and why Celonis pursued a bootstrapping approach for a long time.

A new episode of True Deals about the machinations of international companies, corrupt managers and spectacular deals is published every second Friday.
