True Deals episode 7: Why the gorillas bet didn't work out

21.4.2023

The Gorillas delivery service was founded in May 2020 in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. A hype developed around the start-up, particularly in major cities such as Berlin. Everyone was talking about the bike couriers with their big black backpacks and red lettering. The idea was to order snacks for movie nights and other groceries at the push of a button at low delivery charges and within a very short time. This was perfect timing for many consumers.

With its business model, Gorillas was one of the pioneers of fast food delivery in Germany. Many investors speculated on rapid growth and the startup's growing market power. That was the theory. But the venture capitalists' bet did not work out.

In this episode, Daniel Schex is our guest expert. In conversation with Christina Kleinfeld, he talks about the exciting Gorillas case, the VC market and future opportunities for investors.

This podcast is produced by Podstars by OMR. It is presented by the family office FINVIA and Finance Forward.

A new episode of True Deals about the machinations of international companies, corrupt managers and spectacular deals is published every second Friday.
